AGE OF UPRISING: The Legend of Michael Kohlhaas ON DVD with Mads Mikkelsen


Chicago, IL (July 08, 2014) – Coming off its limited U.S. theatrical release, AGE OF UPRISING: THE LEGEND OF MICHAEL KOHLHAAS starring Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale, A Royal Affair, TV’s “Hannibal”), the inspiring drama based on the true story of a merchant who goes to violent extremes to obtain justice, is making its home video debut this August!


Dramatically set in 16th century France during an era of major cultural and social shifts, AGE OF UPRISING: THE LEGEND OF MICHAEL KOHLHAAStells the true story of an unassuming man who becomes a hero of the people. The biopic is directed by Arnaud des Pallières and adapted from German author Heinrich von Kleist's classic novella, which to this day is considered an iconic piece of German literature.


When humble horse trader Michael Kohlhaas (Mikkelsen) is robbed of his livelihood and family, he is left with nothing to lose and takes the law into his own hands.  Fueled by his own raging fury and determination for justice, Kohlhaas launches an extremely bloody rebellion against the greedy Lord in Southern France and he will not rest – no matter the cost.

AGE OF UPRISING: THE LEGEND OF MICHAEL KOHLHAAS had its worldwide premiere at the 2013 Cannes International Film Festival where it was nominated for the prestigious Palme d’Or award before its theatrical rollout across Europe. In France, the film proved to be a commercial success, earning nominations for six César Awards,including Best Actor and Best Cinematography for the sumptuous work of Jeanne Lapoirie and won two César Awards for Best Original Music and Best Sound.

AGE OF UPRISING: THE LEGEND OF MICHAEL KOHLHAAS -- Synopsis:

 

Michael Kohlhaas is a well-to-do 16th Century horse merchant in Southern France who is wronged when a local nobleman and his lackeys steal two of his horses. Kohlhaas repeatedly seeks fairness and compensation through legal means, but is unjustly rebuffed because of his lack of influence. Matters take a turn for worse when Kohlhaas’s persistence leads to his wife’s tragic murder, leaving the horse merchant and his daughter stricken with grief…and a rising anger that prompts Kohlhaas to turn to fanatical and violent extremes to obtain justice.
