Some websites have reported that the initial screening of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story did not go over well with Disney executives. First off even early cuts of the original Star Wars supposedly did not go over well and Lucas had to oversee and reshoot a lot of things, but look at the final product.
It is hard to judge a film like this after only one article quoting Page Six. I would hope that if Edwards is adding his unique voice to the first anthology film that Disney/Lucasfilm would respect that because the anthology films are like expanded universe dramatized stories and while I know Disney considers them cannon, I think since it is not part of the nine episodes, that each anthology film should have a greater leeway for the filmmaker to present his unique vision of the Star Wars universe while still adhering to the basics. It may not yield hit after hit after hit, but no one wins the World Series every year. Some films may falter, but ultimately if you want to grow a franchise, you need to take chances.
