LOS ANGELES – Inspired by true events, an inescapable tsunami engulfs a seemingly idyllic Norwegian tourist destination in THE WAVE on Blu-ray™, DVD and Digital HD June 21 from Magnolia Home Entertainment. Directed by Roar Uthaug (the upcoming Tomb Raider), the Rotten Tomatoes “Certified Fresh” thriller depicts events that every Norwegian fears may one day happen: the country’s largest unstable mountainside plummets tons of rock and earth into the fjord below. Its path of destruction causes a nearly 300-foot high wave that gives the people of the small town of Geiranger mere minutes to leave their homes and reach higher ground.

Headlined by Kristoffer Joner (The Revenant) and Ane Dahl Torp (Pioneer), the “disaster film with real thrills” (Los Angeles Times) follows geologist Kristian Eikfjord (Joner) and his family as they race against the clock to survive the impending wave. In what should have been their last night in the quaint town, Kristian and his wife, Idun (Torp), are on opposite ends of the popular tourist destination when the alarms sound warn them of the disaster that will soon submerge the streets. Idun, a hotel concierge, must find her son and help vacationers reach a safe haven, while Kristian must save their daughter and help others escape the inevitable catastrophe. THE WAVE is the first ever-Scandinavian disaster movie to bring the traditional Hollywood genre to the big screen. While presenting nothing less than “gripping and naturalistic” (The Austin Chronicle) effects, THE WAVE  is filled with pulse-pounding drama until the very end.

Special features include a behind-the-scenes peek at the making of THE WAVE, an interview with Director Roar Uthaug, and a captivating look at the visual effects used to create some of the film’s most unforgettable scenes. TheBlu-ray and DVD will be available for the suggested retail price of $29.98 and $26.98, respectively.

Synopsis

Nestled in Norway's Sunnmøre region, Geiranger is one of the most spectacular tourist draws on the planet. With the mountain Åkerneset overlooking the village — and constantly threatening to collapse into the fjord — it is also a place where cataclysm could strike at any moment. After putting in several years at Geiranger's warning centre, geologist Kristian (Kristoffer Joner) is moving on to a prestigious gig with an oil company. But the very day he's about to drive his family to their new life in the city, Kristian senses something isn't right. The substrata are shifting. No one wants to believe that this could be the big one, especially with tourist season at its peak, but when that mountain begins to crumble, every soul in Geiranger has 10 minutes to get to high ground before a tsunami hits, consuming everything in its path.
