The Stylized Best of Logan’s Run is not intended to be take down or parody of a 1970s classic. It is the result of one of my experiments with color and tone and perception, which if you look at my takes on Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining and the miniseries Stephen King’s The Shining as well as my rotoscope graphic novel reinterpretations of clips from Once Upon In The West and For A Few Dollars More and my takes on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Wing Commander, you will understand what to expect here.
Basically there are three worlds in the film. The first is the domed city where people have more or less put much of their faith into an A.I. computer that seemingly runs everything for the people so they can live debauched and care free lives with one catch. So I tweaked the color pallet to contrast the reds, which the blood of the citizens and a tinge of a very pale mix of blue and green to emphasize the cold nature of the inner city, which is not the utopia the denizens believe it to be.
Next there is Box’s lair. He is the gatekeeper between the inner world of the city and the outside world. He is sort of a ferryman, but very few given him a tips since few ever get past Box regardless of where they are traveling to. Since Box’s world is refrigerated to the point that it is covered in ice, there is a distinct blue tint that shows the cold nature of both Box and the occupation he carries out. Both the A.I. of the inner city and Box show signs of malfunctioning to the point where the A.I. believes sanctuary is a place to be wiped out and Box literally laughs as he tries to perform his job.
The third world is the outside of the domed city with it flora and fauna and the ruins of Washington DC where a hermit exists, the son of two runners who made it passed Box and now is the proof that not only is there life outside, but everyone can live beyond the date the people were indoctrinated into for generations. Of course this will not be an easy life. Many people simply do not have the skills and will to make it outside, but with no alternative, at least they have a chance and hopefully overall this will lead to a successful adjustment to a new life. That is why I chose a more rustic and muted tone to the world outside because it will not be easy. Not at all.
Hence that is the nature of The Stylized Best of Logan’s Run. I hope you all enjoy it. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Mark A. Rivera
