Hoppers is a return to form for Pixar Animation Studios with a great story that maintains it’s family friendly appeal while including subtle jokes and pop culture references for adults without overdoing it.
Animal lover Mabel seizes an opportunity to use a new technology to ‘hop’ her consciousness into a lifelike robotic beaver and communicate directly with animals. As she makes amazing discoveries, Mabel befriends a charismatic beaver and must rally the entire animal kingdom to face a major, imminent human threat.
The film features multiple twists that keeps the story interesting with roller coaster like events that teeter on the fantastic and yet seem plausible within the world of the movie. The animation is absolutely adorable. Especially the characters of the animals, whether we are encountering them as Mabel does when she interacts with them in her robotic beaver persona and when we see them as humans perceive them. You’ll want to hug your pet just because that’s how cute they look. The film’s score was composed by DEVO cofounder Mark Mothersbaugh. Daniel Chong directed and Bobby Moynihan is a standout as the voice of King George, a charismatic beaver.
The film is presented with a fantastic combination DolbyVision picture and Dolby ATMOS 5.1 Surround Soundtrack. English and Spanish Language Subtitles are encoded as options.
