Gripping Psychological Thriller Rosemary's Baby Arrives On Blu-ray, DVD And Digital HD August 19 From Lionsgate Home Entertainment

Evil is brought to life in this psychological thriller starring Zoe Saldana (Avatar) and Patrick J. Adams (TV's "Suits"). The miniseries event Rosemary's Baby premiered on NBC and arrives on Blu-ray^™ (plus Digital HD), DVD (plus Digital) and Digital HDAugust 19, from Lionsgate Home Entertainment. Based on the best-selling suspense novel by Ira Levin, Rosemary's Baby features a teleplay by James Wong (TV's "American Horror Story") and Scott Abbott (Queen of the Damned) and is directed by Agnieszka Holland (HBO's "The Wire"). Also starring Jason Isaacs (the Harry Potterfranchise) and Carole Bouquet (For Your Eyes Only), the Rosemary's Baby Blu-rayand DVD each include two featurettes, and will be available for the suggested retail price of $19.99 and $19.98, respectively.

 

Set in present-day France, Rosemary's Baby centers on a young married couple that escapes New York and moves to Paris with hopes of leaving their sad past behind. After a series of unfortunate events, Rosemary and Guy Woodhouse are presented with an offer they can't refuse - an apartment at the most prestigious address in the city. Problem is, it comes with a haunted past, and an immeasurable price.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 40th Anniversary Restored Theatrical Release on June, 21, 2014!

Much like the way George A. Romero established one of the most respected and important reputations as an Auteur in the horror genre with the 1968 original, Night of the Living Dead, Tobe Hooper established himself with what would be the first of a quarter of killers that haunted movie theaters and nightmares of film fans with his classic and still unequaled masterpiece, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Now a completely restored 4K transfer of the film is being releases theatrically on June 21, 2014. 

Looking at the trailer alone, the difference between the previous home video releases and the 40th anniversary edition is almost unprecedented. The film now looks like it was made today with the intention of having a look and feel of a film produced in the 1970s, which arguably is one of the greatest decades for theatrical films of all types.

Previously on home video the best version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to see was the one produced by Don May, Jr., who is the President of Synapse Films, which co-founded with Jerry Chandler. Synapse Films is one of the pioneers in bringing cult cinema to mainstream audiences with loving care not unlike the work that is done for The Criterion Collection. 

All genre film fans and home video producers owe a great amount of respect and thanks to Don because even before Synapse Films, Don May Jr. pioneered the art of taking horror films and creating spot on, top shelf laserdisc releases. Were it not for Don May Jr., the studios and independent distributors alike may have never taken an interest in their catalogs of genre film classics, which of course they all have since with home video releases on DVD and Blu-ray Disc.

Prior to the upcoming theatrical release of the 40th Anniversary Edition, the reference quality and definitive edition of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was overseen and produced by Don so I wondered if he had anything to do with this new release of the horror classic and so I got in touch and asked him. 

Don replied "They approached me to do it but, because of my schedule conflicts (and the time constraint/deadline) I couldn’t do it. They used my notes, etc. and initial timing info to do it, and Tobe tweaked some other things."

SAN FRANCISCO (JUNE 18, 2014) – Fandor announced today that the streaming service will exclusively host the world premiere of MY AMERICA, the latest feature film from renowned filmmaker, Hal Hartley on Fandor this July 4^th. 

Fandor is fostering a community of filmmakers and film enthusiasts online and throughout the world. With the debut of MY AMERICA, Fandor continues to provide unique and original films to wider audiences through its subscription streaming service. Earlier this month, Fandor debuted Agnieszka Holland’s critically acclaimed BURNING BUSH day-and-date with its theatrical run in New York City at Film Forum.

Originally commissioned by Centerstage (the State Theater of Maryland), MY AMERICA is comprised of twenty-one inventively staged monologues by leading American playwrights; the film addresses the variety and complexity of America’s current anxieties.

The debut of this new work by Hartley reflects both Fandor’s mission to offer new films from the most exciting cinematic voices but also marks another collaboration with long-time colleague Ted Hope, celebrated producer and Fandor CEO. “I owe a large part of both my career and critical eye to Hal Hartley,” said Hope, “So it is a true joy to host the exclusive premiere of Hal’s latest film.”

“Working with some of our best playwrights, Hal gets at the core of NOW,” continued Hope, “And like every thing Hal has done, MY AMERICA is bold, funny, insightful, and formally daring — and isn’t that what we all always want from OUR America and our filmmakers, actors, and writers? Thankfully we have Hal (and Fandor) to deliver it directly to you.”

These twenty-one monologues, written by some of the nation’s most exciting playwrights including Neil LaBute, Danny Hoch, Dan Dietz, Marcus Gardley, form a sort of fractured portrait of the American collective psyche. Ranging from the sad to the hilarious, from the angry to the tentatively celebratory, many of the major and recurrent issues associated with our fraught but beloved union are reconsidered with elegance, wit, brutal honesty, and a little outright insanity.  The keenly observed and crafted monologues are performed by notable actors from Jefferson Mays to Kathleen Chalfant, as well as Hartley regular Thomas Jay Ryan.

Hartley is a prolific American filmmaker whose work has won numerous awards at Cannes and Sundance. His work includes such feature films as SIMPLE MEN starring Bill Sage and Robert John Burke, NO SUCH THING with Sarah Polley and Helen Mirren, and FAY GRIM with Parker Posey and Jeff Goldblum. Hartley’s works off-screen have included various acclaimed theater productions and MY AMERICA marks the first of Hartley’s films to capture stage-work on film.

With the release of MY AMERICA on Fandor, Hope is once again reunited with Hartley, for their eleventh film collaboration (not including music videos). Their first film together was THE UNBELIEVABLE TRUTH (1989), an unconventional love story about a teenager falling in love with a mechanic with a criminal past, which was Hartley’s first film. They have been frequent collaborators and colleagues since. 

Additionally, Fandor will host a special screening and Q&A of the film with Hartley and Hope on Wednesday, July 9^th at IFC Center in New York City.
