The Robot Chicken Walking Dead Special: Look Who's Walking DVD Review

Featuring an All-Star lineup of cast members from The Walking Dead who reprised their characters to voice their stop motion counterparts, The Robot Chicken Walking Dead Special: Look Who's Walking program is arguably one of the hit Adult Swim comedy series' most ambitious undertakings. With the support of the series producer Scott M. Gimple and the graphic novel's creator Robert Kirkman, both of whom participated in the creation of this TV special as well as with the blessings of AMC, the creative forces behind both shows came together along with series stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, Steven Yeun, Sarah Wayne Callies and Talking Dead Host Chris Hardwick lend their creative talents along with series stars Breckin Meyer and Seth Green.

The results are for the most part very successful though comedy like this is subjective and may appeal more to others, but not everyone. This is the nature of anything creative, but writing comedy is arguably the hardest genre to produce precisely because of the polarizing nature of comedy in general,  I think if you are a fan of the other specials or Robot Chicken in general then you should enjoy it though laughter is not guarenteed.

The 22-minute special covers more or less the first eight seasons with some standout skits being the Welcome To Terminus song, featuring Daniel Radcliffe and Do The Negan as sung by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Michael Rooker also sings a bit for the show and these songs will be released as part of a digital soundtrack on Friday, March 23, 2018 on i'Tunes, Google Play, Amazon, Spotify, Tidal, Pandora, and other platforms.

The program on DVD is presented in a clean 16 by 9 enhanced (1.78:1) aspect ration with a clear English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Soundtrack and English Subtitkes for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired encoded as an option.

Bonus features include two audio commentary tracks, one of which features Gimple and Kirkman participating, a behind-the-scenes featurette (7:28), eight deleted sketches that mostly never made it beyond the storyboard process, some behind-the-scenes walker pranks done to crew members interviewed for this home video release and more.

The interactive menus are well rendered with sound bytes from the special and are easy to navigate. A Blu-ray edition will also be released, but sold separately.

Robot Chicken Walking Dead Special: Look Who's Walking will debut on DVD on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at retailers on and offline courtesy of Warner Brothers.
