The fourth season of Falling Skies, which aired on Sunday, June 22, 2014 (ET/PT) following the the launch of the new TNT drama The Last Ship, feels like a bit of a cheat. Having had a won a victory against the Espheni and even stood up against their alien allies, who wanted to relocate humanity to Brazil, where they said it was "Safe" is all but negated within minutes of the premiere. The Espheni now have improved their war machine and driven most of the alien Volm race off of Earth to protect their own people. Meanwhile the daughter of Tom and Ann, who is somehow a hybrid humanoid who looks like a younger version of the exiled Queen with the Dragons on Game of Thrones, but also feels like a ripoff of the Star Child from the original V miniseries and TV series from the 1980s, is the head of some cult and we learn that the Espheni are fighting a much larger galactic war against an opponent who may or may not be an even more malevolent force placing humanity at the crosshairs again.
It is my hope that like previous seasons of Falling Skies, this season will pick up and get better over the course of the series, but the show feels like it is being stretched beyond it's means and so it is my hope that whatever comes, TNT and the series producers consider ending the series satisfactorily by the end of the fifth season if the show is renewed. I would rather remember Falling Skies as one of the better sci-fi dramas of the new decade than watch it wither. Falling Skies season four airs on Sundays at 10pm (ET/PT) on TNT.
