The Long Walk Blu-ray Disc Review.

The Long Walk is the latest feature film adaptation to be released on Blu-ray disc based on a Stephen King story. The film is also one of the best adaptations of a Stephen King story made for the big screen that I have seen yet. Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson lead an ensemble cast that also includes Garrett Wareing and Mark Hamill as The Major. While I may not be able to give you every single name of every actor that appears in this film, I feel the majority of them were perfectly cast and whether the Actors were cast in small little roles in the background or larger character roles. I felt something for the characters in general and got a sense of the story and a sense of the bleak location in which the story takes place. Without going too far into the plot basically every year there’s a lottery and a certain amount of volunteers, one for each state, are allowed to participate in what is called The Long Walk. The rules are simple: the last person walking will receive a cash prize and a wish. Everyone else is executed when they fall below a certain amount of miles per hour walking speed regardless of the reason.

The picture quality on the Blu-ray Disc is fine. It captures the muted rustic quality of the film, and the English Dolby ATMOS Soundtrack is well rounded and at times very screen specific as far as the direction of the sound heard particularly when certain characters are retired from the long walk. Spanish and French Language Dolby Digital 5.1  Surround Soundtracks are provided along with an English Descriptive Audio Track for the Visually Impaired and English Subtitles for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired coupled with French and Spanish Language Subtitles.

Towards towards the end of this month, the film will be made available at all retailers on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc, but you can purchase it exclusively as a Steel book from Amazon.com. You can also purchase at Amazon or anywhere right now the film on 1080p full HD Blu-ray Disc. The special features include a true multi type part documentary about the making of the film which runs approximately one hour and 14 minutes and 12 seconds if you watch it using a play all feature. Two theatrical trailers; both under 2 1/2 minutes, are also included among the extra features and there is an insert with a code within the case for a digital copy redeemable at the address given on the insert for the limited time only.

Though it can be bleak, I really like this film. I really hope it develops an audience over the years to come because it is a good movie. The Long Walk is available now at retailers on and off-line on Blu-ray Disc and exclusively for now in steel book packaging and on 4K ultra HD Blu-ray disc exclusively at Amazon, as well as at digital copy retailers online depending on which your favorite provider may be.

Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas: 25th Anniversary Edition 4K Blu-ray + Blu-ray + Digital Copy Review

It is interesting to look back on the recently released Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas: 25th Anniversary Edition 4K Blu-ray + Blu-ray + Digital Copy from Universal Studios Home Entertainment and realize that this is a film that even back in the Year 2001 was completed largely with practical effects and makeup, and it still holds up well today although Jim Carrey is kind of frightful looking in his Grinch makeup. This re-release of the now Holiday classic live action adaptation includes one 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc, one Full HD 1080P Blu-ray disc and a limited time redeemable Movies Anywhere code for a free digital copy. For this release, a new Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos soundtrack were created and the film looks beautiful though I found the quality difference to be minimal between the Full HD and the Ultra HD versions. One should know though that this is a subjective review in terms of how I perceived the picture quality, which might be different from how you perceive it, but overall, I would state that the film being still in my eyes are relatively recent release, I remember when it was in theaters, one should expect a home video release of a film like this to look as good as it does, especially considering what has been accomplished with far older movies in the past. Yeah I am a fan of both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos sound and they are my preferred listening and viewing formats for movie watching at home so I’m very pleased at the results and I’m grateful that I could actually watch this now in the best possible picture and sound quality that is available at home. The fact that they include the full HD Blu-ray disc as well as a digital copy makes this a real gift of sorts in terms of holiday value. I do not think this will disappoint anyone who invest in purchasing it.

That noted, there is only one new feature that is included on this new release, which is basically a retrospective documentary detailing the observations of Director RonHoward, Producer Brian Glaser, Makeup Artist Rick Baker and Actress Taylor Momsen (34:43). The rest of the extra value features are legacy extras that include deleted scenes, outtakes, a look at the make up application and design, the “Who School” process the Actors had to undergo in order to convingly portray the characters created by Dr. Seuss in live action, production design, visual effects as well as the Faith Hill music video for “Where Are You Christmas?” and the theatrical trailer. Director Ron Howard provides an in-depth screen specific feature length audio commentary track too.

Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale: 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital Code Review

Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale: 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital Code is available now at retailers on and offline. I reviewed the box set on YouTube, which you can click on below if you want a more overall idea of what the entire story is about for this will simply be a review of the last film in the series.

The picture quality in 4K ultra HD is simply amazing. The clarity was so beyond anything. I can recall seeing that it almost looks three-dimensional. I thought I could almost put my hand through the screen and feel what I was seeing. This is especially the case of the opening Steady Cam sequence within the theater.Downton Abbey is almost feudalistic at times because right from the very beginning, even in the audio commentary, the shows writer and executive producer is quick to point out how the main characters that represent the family that we followed for six seasons and three future films, have the best seats while the servants are all the way up and using my own words might as well be the nosebleed seats. If one is to enjoy the show, one has to put away any sort of contempt, for what is almost a step away from feudalism in the sense that these are people from a different time and we cannot judge them in the way we would judge people today and the 21st century. The English have an interesting representative government, where their apparently is a democracy and yet there is also a royal family that is as far as I know, not supposed to really have any political power except for perhaps some cases where they may break a tie or something. Unfortunately, I’m not all that up on how British politics work despite the fact that I have a few friends in Great Britain and I enormously have loved the English culture. So this is not a show about poor people and yet it really is a show about passing on the baton not just to a younger generation, but saying farewell, and in an interesting way, everyone gets good closure even characters who may not have been well liked or may not have always been kind or forthright decent to good closure in their storylines. If you are a fan of the series and the feature films that followed it then I could tell you right now that you should watch this film because it is a celebration of everything that came before it and a fitting conclusion to the series as a whole.

Besides the fantastic picture quality found on both the 4K ultra HD Blu-ray disc and digital copies, the discs also feature a very well rounded English DolbyATMOS surround soundtrack. French and English Dubbed Dolby Digital Plus Surround Soundtracks are also encoded along with English Subtitles for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired as well as French Canadian and Latin American Spanish Language Soundtracks encoded as options.

There are a number of extra value features to be found within the set as well as Movies Anywhere Digital Copy. these include a feature length audio commentary with Director Simon Curtis and Actress Elizabeth McGovern that is screen specific. The rest of the extra value features basically examine the theme of changing times on the series as well as the authenticity that was put into the making of the film and a farewell to fans from the cast and filmmakers, sharing heartfelt memories with a men’s gratitude for the support and love of the fans.

Overall, if you already have the previous seasons and the previous movies, then this is a no-brainer way to complete your collection, but regardless, I have to stay without a reservation that for those who love fine British drama, you can do far worse with tabloid imitation. Watch Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale: 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital Code now that it is available at retailers on and offline courtesy of Universal Studios Home Entertainment.
