The less you know about The Menu going into it the better the experience will be so I want anyone reading this to please don’t go to Wikipedia or some spoilers website or YouTube video offering to explain everything for you because you don’t need it explained. You are smart enough to put it together on your own. Avoid all trailers and averts if possible. If someone tries to talk to you about the film and you have not seen it then kindly ask them to stop. I also am asking you all here who are reading this review to please give the same respect to others as I have to you, who have not yet seen the film. Everyone should experience The Menu for themselves going in with no expectations.
Twentieth Century Films through Fox Searchlight is releasing The Menu on Blu-ray Disc in a few weeks and released The Menu on digital copy to buy or rent through Disney’s Movies Anywhere app, which is the best deal online as far as I am concerned because depending on what services you use or have used, you can link accounts on iTunes, YouTube Movies, Amazon Prime Video, Vudu and others. You may not be able to link to every and all online user accounts, but in addition to Movies Anywhere, I now can watch digital copies of any film purchased or redeemed through Movies Anywhere on iTunes, Prime Video, Vudu and YouTube Movies at no charge and so long as those accounts are linked, I believe the copies will be there so the consumer truly gets the benefit of choice here. Of all the platforms and streaming media players I have used, my preference is iTunes with an Apple TV streaming player. I love the graphic user interface and it is easy to use too while providing everything a customer expects from an Apple product. Odds are you won’t need to have a separate streaming device regardless of what you use because Apple, Vudu, YouTube and Amazon all have apps on most smart TV platforms and even some Blu-ray Players have usable apps too and that includes the Movies Anywhere application where you can stream your library too depending on what you have and whether or not the film you are watching is a part of the Movies Anywhere team. Sometimes certain services will offer to present the film in UHD where available as an option while others will not. At the time of publishing this review, Movies Anywhere and iTunes offers The Menu in high definition while Amazon Prime Video has it in Ultra High Definition. Some streaming platforms offer features unique to that service, which may not be available on another service so be aware of that regardless if you link your accounts through Movies Anywhere or not.
Digitally on Apple TV, The Menu is presented in HD with Dolby ATMOS audio where available with listening choices in English, Latin American Spanish and French Language coupled with optional English Captions, English Closed Captions for the Hearing Impaired, Latin American Spanish and Canadian French Language Subtitles.
The extra value features include a four-part making of featurette with interviews featuring Ralph Fiennes, Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult, John Leguizamo, and Hong Chau as well as screenwriters Seth Reiss and Will Tracy, Director Mark Mylod and others involved with bringing The Menu to life (17:22). Four deleted scenes that can be viewed individually or as one reel (5:01) are also included.
The Menu is available now to stream from Movies Anywhere and other streaming platforms courtesy of Fox Searchlight and Twentieth Century Films.
