Announced At San Diego Comic-Con, PENNY DREADFUL - SEASON ONE Arrives On DVD & Blu-ray October 7

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (July 24, 2014) - The acclaimed SHOWTIME® original seriesPENNY DREADFUL - SEASON ONE will arrive on Blu-ray Disc and DVD October 7, it was announced today during the PENNY DREADFUL panel at San Diego Comic-Con International 2014.

From Showtime Networks, CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Media Distribution, the Blu-ray and DVD collections will include every episode of the series' first season, celebrated by critics as "scary, seductive, surprising, and smart" (NPR) and "solidly entertaining, well cast and oozing with atmosphere" (Variety). Both Blu-ray and DVD collections also boast extensive special features that delve into the gripping thriller.

From three-time Oscar® nominee John Logan (SkyfallHugo, Gladiator) and Oscar winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall),PENNY DREADFUL is a frightening psychosexual drama that weaves together classic horror origin stories into a gripping series that is "moody, mystical and wonderfully twisted" (Cleveland Plain Dealer). PENNY DREADFUL, starring Josh Hartnett (Black Hawk Down), Timothy Dalton (The Living Daylights) and Eva Green (Casino), completely reinvents literature's most famous characters. Icons of terror such as Victor Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and timeless figures from Dracula join a core of original characters in a dark and brutal quest to save a soul - even as they grapple with their own monstrous temptations.

The series also stars Reeve Carney (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark), Rory Kinnear (Skyfall), Billie Piper (Doctor Who, Secret Diary of a Call Girl), Danny Sapani (The Bill) and Harry Treadaway (The Lone Ranger). A co-production of Sky Atlantic, PENNY DREADFULwas created, written and executive produced by John Logan and executive produced by Logan's Desert Wolf Productions, along with Sam Mendes and Pippa Harris (Revolutionary Road, Call The Midwife), both of Neal Street.

PENNY DREADFUL - SEASON ONEincludes the first eight episodes of the series as a three-disc collection, and will be available for the suggested retail prices of $48.99 US and $52.99 CAN (Blu-ray) and $42.99 US and $47.99 CAN (DVD). The Blu-ray Disc is presented in 1080p high definition with English TrueHD 5.1, and Spanish 2.0 Stereo with English subtitles and English SDH. The DVD is presented in Widescreen 16:9 with English 5.1 Surround, English 2.0 Surround, and Spanish 2.0 Stereo with English subtitles. Comic-Con: Cost to look like your favorite superhero

Avengers, X-Men, and Batman oh my! Comic-Con has taken over San Diego and while the masses are focused on the stars and upcoming blockbusters, the experts at RealSelf decided to explore how these larger-than-life superheroes have come to influence the ideal body image.

All we have to do is look at the transformation of Batman over the years to see that the superhero standards have rapidly changed. Pressure to conform to these standards has made its way far outside the limits of Hollywood, with cases of recreational steroid use rising across the globe. What's more, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the number of cosmetic procedures being performed on men has increased 273% in the last 16 years.

By now, we've all seen the superfans willing to go under the knife to look like Justin Bieber or Kim Kardashian. Ever curious what it would cost to get the biceps of Batman, the abs of Aquaman, or the calves of Captain America... without giving up all of your favorite foods? RealSelf teamed up with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Rick Silverman to figure out an estimate of how much you'd have to pay to get the body of your favorite superhero. (Spoiler alert: It ain't gonna be cheap - and it doesn't even include things like wardrobe and fancy gadgets!)


Unfortunately for all of us mortals, we can't rely on plastic surgery alone to get the body of a superhero; there's no nip or tuck that will magically turn you into a superhero - and we don't suggest trying! However, if you are able to build that body through diet and exercise (with maybe a bit of surgery), then more (super)power to you! After all, the world could always use a couple extra superheroes.

NEW YORK – July 24 2014 – Just in time for the world premiere of Sharknado 2: The Second OneSyfy and Philips, the global leader in lighting, today announced the first ever television content-focused immersive lighting experience with the pairing of the Syfy Sync second screen app and the Philips Hue connected lighting system for the home.

 

Fans who pair the Syfy Sync app for iPhone and iPad and Philips Hue bulbs while watching Sharknado andSharknado 2 on Wednesday, July 30 (at 7PM and 9PM EST, respectively) will be treated to a specially designed “light track” – a visual soundtrack – that adds a heightened layer to the movie-watching experience in addition to the existing content and social experience Syfy Syncprovides. However, fans of Syfy and Hue can get warmed up starting today as the app works immediately with the originalSharknado, available on a variety of platforms.

 

When combined, the app will detect audio cues from the Sharknado movies and translate them to the Web-enabled Hue system. Fans will of then be enveloped in the onscreen action through ambient lighting effects as the bulbs change colors to reflect the increasingly stormy weather conditions, chainsaw-induced shark carnage and more throughout the two movies.

Based on the hit web series of the same name, ANGRY VIDEO GAME NERD: THE MOVIEblends science fiction, adventure, and comedy to follow a disgruntled gamer who must overcome his fear of the worst video game of all time in order to save his fans. Hilarity ensues as a simple road trip becomes an extravagant pursuit of the unexpected.

It was in 2006 that Rolfe uploaded his first review clip, establishing the popular persona that has made him a digital-age star. His motor-mouthed alter ego became a web sensation and the lure of the big screen came calling. Rolfe, his co-writer/director Kevin Finn, and producer Sean Keegan, have met the challenge with this inventive and off-kilter homage to B-grade cinema.

Entirely crowd-funded by the webseries’ large international fan-base, ANGRY VIDEO GAME NERD: THE MOVIE raised what was, at the time in 2012, the second most ever for a film campaign online.   The film also tapped into its fans in the Industry, with more than 80 VFX artist volunteers contributing to the film and a score by AVGN fan and Emmy-Award winning composer, Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica)

The film retains all the elements that made Rolfe’s web series so successful — his delirious tirades and corrosive commentaries, along with a streak of humor comparable to Lloyd Kaufman’s. The film holds equal appeal for neophytes as a road movie that Rolfe carries capably with his Buster Keaton-esque comic turns. And yes, rest assured, Rolfe’s crafty critiques make their way into this love letter to genre classics!


RELEASE PLANS:

 had its World Premiere on Monday, July 21 at a sold-out special event screening in Los Angeles. This will be followed by screenings during Comic-Con and Fantasia Fest (both of which are sold out), before launching into a nationwide tour. The tour will visit more than 20 cities in the U.S. and Canada and nearly all engagements are sold out.

Writer/director Ramon Zürcher explores the deeper meaning of the trivial in this droll narrative centered on a seemingly uneventful day in the life of a Berlin family. Siblings Karin and Simon return home to visit their parents and younger sister and to help prepare dinner for their extended family. Events unfold leisurely, but with plenty of underlying and unstated tensions inevitable in a flat overstuffed with a mother, father, children, grandmother and cat. The eponymous ginger feline offers consolation and possibly the film’s point of view.

THE STRANGE LITTLE CAT made its World Premiere at the Berlin Int'l Film Festival 2013 (International Forum of New Cinema), and also played at many other film festivals, including CPH PIX 2013 (Main Competition, Prize: New Talent Grand PIX Award), Cannes Film Festival 2013 (ACID Programmation), Toronto Int'l Film Festival 2013 (Wavelengths), AFI FEST Los Angeles 2013 (Competition New Auteurs) and New Directors/New Films 2014.
