Harold Ramis Tribute: YouTube Comedy Series EconPop Spoofs Ghostbusters

"This is a terrific way of mixing a beloved film and some economic explanation in an entertaining and educational way."

Today EconPop, the new YouTube web series by the Moving Picture Institute and Emergent Order, released “The Economics of Ghostbusters” here:http://youtu.be/nZeYaJ8xJLA  The series, hosted by comedian Andrew Heaton, is not your average movie review show: EconPop uses humor to examine how popular films portray economic ideas, such as subjective value, negative externalities, and unintended consequences.

“Ghostbusters isn’t just one of the best films to come out of the ’80s. It is a great story about entrepreneurship,” said executive producer John Papola. “The Ghostbusters take massive risks to get their company off the ground, they innovate, they create value, and they tangle with regulators.”

EconPop airs every month atEconStories.tv. Previous episodes have covered Dallas Buyers Club and House of Cards. Each episode is accompanied by in-depth, audio podcasts featuring EconPop host Andrew Heaton and scholars such as literature professor Paul Cantor and economist Steve Horwitz.

About Woodstock and the Film

The Woodstock Music and Art Fair was held at Max Yasgur’s dairy farm in the rural town of BethelNew York on a sometimes rain-soaked weekend from August 15 to August 18, 1969. Half a million people of all colors, shapes, sizes, ages and sexes attended this historical event. They came by car, by truck, a few even by helicopter, but the majority walked to what turned out to be the most famous festival in history, an event that was hailed by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the “50 Moments That Changed the History of Rock ‘n’ Roll.”

32 legendary musical acts appeared which, in addition to those mentioned above, included The Band, Canned Heat, Joe Cocker, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, Richie Havens, John Sebastian and Sly & The Family Stone.

Winner of the Academy Award® for Best Documentary Feature (and nominated for Best Editing and Best Sound), Woodstockwas produced by Bob Maurice and directed by Michael Wadleigh, who assembled an outstanding crew that included young filmmakers at the start of their careers Academy Award® winners: director Martin Scorsese[1] (The Wolf of Wall Street) and editor Thelma Schoonmaker[2] (The Wolf of Wall Street). Michael Lang, Artie Kornfeld, John Roberts and Joel Rosenman created the original Festival.

In his highest grossing movie, Elvis shares the screen with Ann-Margret, easily creating the most electrifying teaming Elvis had on screen. He plays Lucky Jackson, a Grand Prix race driver working at a casino to raise cash for a new engine; she’s a hotel swimming instructor - and the romantic action revs up from their first meeting. George Sidney, who also directed Ann-Margret in Bye Bye Birdie, combines the hormonal heat wave with

fascinating sights of ’60s Las Vegas. David Winters (West Side Story) choreographed the 10 musical song-and-dance scenes which also featured his dancers. Songs include the high-roller title track, the stars’ duet on “The Lady Loves Me,” her sultry “Appreciation” and The King’s version of Ray Charles’ “What’d I Say.” The soundtrack is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 stereo.

Elvis Aaron Presley

(1935 – 1977)

Elvis Presley was one of Hollywood’s top box-office draws, starring in 31 feature films and two theatrically-released concert documentaries over the course of his career. His music was as much a part of his box-office success as his good looks and charisma. In fact, some of his top-selling songs were from the movie soundtracks. Eleven of his soundtrack albums made it into the top ten on the Billboard Album charts and of those, four became number one hits. It is estimated that Elvis has sold over a billion records worldwide, more records than any other artist in record industry history, and even 30 years after his death, Elvis still conquers new legions of fans as even compilations of his RCA recordings, such as “Elvis 30 #1 Hits” and “Elvis 2nd to None,” have both topped the Billboard charts of best-selling albums.

MUSICAL CHAIRS Directed by Susan Seidelman To Air on HBO, HBO Latino and HBO Signature Throughout April 2014

"Effervescent! Seidelman's feel for setting and character is truly spectacular."

- Time Out New York

"Susan Seidelman still knows how to capture the chaotic magic of New York."

- The Village Voice

"A terrific film full of life, heart, music and fantastic dancing. A movie that just makes you feel good. See it!"

- Boxoffice

New York, NY - MUSICAL CHAIRS, the inspiring romantic film from renowned director Susan Seidelman (Desperately Seeking Susan) will air on HBOHBO Latino and HBO Signature throughout the month of April! The English-language movie has Spanish subtitles and will be available on HBO GO. Watch MUSICAL CHAIRS on HBO, HBO Latino and HBO Signature airing at the times listed here: http://bit.ly/watchMConHBO

A unique blend of dance, drama, and romance, MUSICAL CHAIRS stars newcomers Leah Pipes and E.J. Bonilla as a pair of unlikely lovers in contemporary New York who must face a number of challenges, both separately and together, before finding one another--and themselves.  Also starring Tony-winner Priscilla Lopez, Jaime Tirelli, Laverne Cox, Morgan Spector, Auti Angel, Jerome Preston Bates, Nelson R. Landrieu, and Angelic Zambrana, MUSICAL CHAIRS was produced by Janet Carrus and Joey Dedio.

Set against the exciting backdrop of competitive ballroom dancing, MUSICAL CHAIRS is about Armando (Bonilla) a Bronx-bred Latino who aspires to be a dancer but whose only way in is as a handyman at a Manhattan dance studio, and Mia (Pipes), an Upper East Side princess who is the studio's star performer. Though worlds apart, their shared passion for dance promises to bring them together until a tragic accident changes Mia's life forever, and she finds herself wheelchair-bound at a rehab facility, with her dreams of a dance career shattered. Fortunately, Armando has enough dreams for both of them and, when he hears about a wheelchair ballroom dance competition that will soon be held in NY, he sees a way to return something to Mia that she thinks is lost forever.  At first she is reluctant--wheelchair dancing, though highly popular overseas, is something she never even knew existed. But, with the help of several other residents at the rehab center, Armando organizes an intense training program that will bring them all center stage and in the spotlight. The prize is irrelevant; what they really stand to win back is their zest for life.
