HiroQuest: Genesis & Double Helix Graphic Novel Review

Musician Steve Aoki and Author Jim Krueger collaborated to bring readers a unique and singular experience with the graphic novel, HiroQuest: Genesis & Double Helix, which was released on April 9, 2024 at comic stores and sellers on and offline for a suggested retail price of $21.99. This is a limited edition graphic novel of only 1500 in print. The ISBN Number to make searching for this book easier is 978-1-962594-18-9.

This is book one of what I guess will be a continuing series of future stories detailing the rich world of HiroQuest. Much like in cinemas and elsewhere, this is a multiverse story, but don’t let turn you away because Aioki and Krueger throw in everything but the kitchen sink to tell a rich and expansive storyline that transcends time and space and brings together a host of creatures ranging from mutants, robots, zombies, aliens and witches to name a few.

Wrapped within the funhouse is the odyssey of Hiro, a genetically altered Meta Human who travels across ten different worlds in search ten rings yielding incredible power for the one who possesses it. The story explores themes of morality, predestination, personal happiness and sacrifice for a greater good.

This 269 page epic tale is beautifully illustrated with art reminiscent of manga with a plethora of colors and tones that contrast well with the plight of the characters and the mission undertaken. This is a softcover graphic nove, but the paper printed upon it is very premium in quality. The book is literally a mix of styles with conventional text based storytelling mixed in with a kaleidoscope of in universe subheadings and chapters that draws the reader into the world so it feels as though this is not just a graphic novel printed in our world, but rather in a very and appropriately “meta way” feels like this book itself came from another world.

I found the complete package, which is the book as a whole as a kind of transcendental account of a hero’s journey to be thoroughly original and well worth looking into for fans of Aoki and Krueger.

HiroQuest: Genesis & Double Helix is available for a limited time at retailers on and offline across ten dimensions.
