FILM ANNIVERSARY HIGHLIGHTS

THE LEGEND OF BAGGER VANCE

20th Anniversary on November 3rd

Using golf as a metaphor for one man's spiritual and philosophical journeys, Oscar winner Robert Redford directs this adaptation of the uplifting novel by Steven Pressfield, itself loosely based on a sacred Hundu text.  After a gifted amateur golfer experiences tragic loss during World War I, his shattered confidence sends him into a spiral of alcoholism. The beautiful heiress who once loved him, proposes a deal to bring in business to her inherited, failing golf course—a high-stakes match between the two most famous golfers of the day. When the match sponsors insist that a local golfer be added to the card, Junuh is drafted for the position, and a mysterious man named Bagger Vance appears to coach him back to remember the swing he's lost. With narration by Jack Lemmon, and a stellar cast that includes Will Smith, Matt Damon, Charlize Theron, and Bruce McGill, it’s an inspiring lesson that some things can’t be learned—they must be remembered.
