Brooklyn, NY – December 18, 2017 -- This January, FilmRise will release “Pornocracy,” the provocative exposé on the modern-day porn industry. Directed by former French adult film director Ovidie, the investigative documentary, which was an Official Selection at SXSW 2017, captured international audiences with its shocking and informative presentation of the current changes in the multi-billion dollar X-rated industry. The film will be available on Amazon Video, iTunes, Google Play and Vudu, as well as DVD and Blu-ray January 16, 2018.

Pornocracy” is a disturbing look at how the wonders of the internet has made the shady industry of pornography rich. The provocative documentary highlights interspersing interviews with former and current porn stars, directors, studio heads, and CEOs of internet companies that now run the streaming websites. However -- it is now in death cramps due to piracy ruining the market and forcing the participants to perform more extreme sex. Through an insider’s eye, Ovidie investigates how the arrival of these free streaming websites, which feature amateur and pirated clips, has transformed the way porn is created and consumed.  In her investigation, she exposes how a group of programmers hijacked the adult industry to create a mysterious multinational corporation that virtually controls the entire adult industry worldwide.

As Ovidie states, her film “reveals how a group of ‘geeks’ with no experience in pornography have hijacked the adult industry and are slowly killing it with their controversial financial structures.”

In addition to SXSW, “Pornocracy” was an Official Selection at Denmark’s CPH-DOX and Docville International Documentary Film Festival. The Hollywood Reportercalled it “A business-centric look at the sex-vid industry,” and Indiewiresaid “Pornocracy is a service to adult entertainers and brings attention to a troubling trend that should make some think twice before indulging in free porn.”

The film has a running time of 77 minutes and is Not Rated. It is in French and English, with English subtitles
