Culver City, CA (February 12, 2014) – Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) and Lucent Pictures Entertainment today announced they will co-finance the sci-fi adventureAppleseed Alpha. A state-of-the-art full CG animated feature film, Appleseed Alpha is the latest installment in the sci-fi action adventure franchise based on the original comic books by Shirow Masamune (creator of Ghost in the Shell) published by Seishinsha.
This new installment, slated to be released this summer, is a reboot and will depict the early days of Deunan and Briareos in search of the legendary city of Olympus. Appleseed Alphawill be directed by Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed, Starship Troopers Invasion, Space Pirate Captain Harlock) and produced by Joseph Chou (Appleseed Ex-Machina, Halo Legends).
Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions and Lucent Pictures Entertainment are co-financing the production by Sola Digital Arts.
