Fantastic Alien Covenant Poster.

This is one of the best theatrical one sheets I have ever seen. It is art and would make a terrific sculpture.

Rest In Peace Chuck Barris

He was most noted for his role as the host of The Gong Show and he was the Author of Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind, which made into a feature film directed by George Clooney. While it may seem quaint by modern standards, The Gong Show could be seen as a hybrid reality/talent game show with a comedic edge long before programs like Star Search, Showtime At The Apollo and Dance Fever and even longer before contemporary shows like America's Got Talent and The Voice. Mr. Barris was 87 years old.

Danny Rand is the Anakin Skywalker of the MCU. #IronFist

Yes it is true. While superheroes owe their lineage to the archetypal storytelling that has been handed down from one generation to the next going all the way back to Mesopotamia, some of the problems inherent within the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe Neflix series, Ironfist seem to be very similar to the problems that defined Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels. They both have issues regarding loss, which corrupts their energy with anger and they are also both chosen ones who are vulnerable as a result of this. To a certain extent they also are naive and have father figure problems as well as brother figure problems too. They both are sworn enemies of practitioners of a similar art form, but their ideologies are polar opposites. Just with these broad strokes alone, I hope one can see the similarities. There were other unexplained problems with the storytelling such as how did a barefoot man dressed in sweats make it from the Hymilaya mountains to New York City? Just getting down a mountain barefoot would most likely yield extreme frostbite and the real possibility of his feet becoming so frozen that he would lose all sensation, fall into the snow if not off the mountain and his feet even if he were rescued would probably have to undergo surgical amputation at the toes, which would hinder his special abilities let alone his ability to walk. Another big question is how did he get to New York without any money? Later they make the act of reaching the top of such mountains seem like it is no big deal when training and the ability to adjust to the thinner oxygen would be something not anyone can do period.

Then the problem of characterization takes hold. In a story this muddled, one would think the writers would work hard on their characterizations, but the story arc is unfocused with no clear villain and no sense of closure. When Madam Lau becomes the best character in an entire series, there are problems. I think I would be more interested in seeing a miniseries just about her character and since ultimately she is the "kingpin" of this series, the story should have focused more on the dichotomy between Danny Rand and Madam Lau rather than adding extra villains that are flat and offer little payoff to the storyarc. I think they should have spent more time developing the first series so that it flowed more like Luke Cage, Daredevil and even Jessica Jones

While Rosario Dawson is easy on the eyes, her character seems shoehorned into this series too and since she got fired from her hospital job, how the Hell is she supporting herself?  The answer, "Well this is supposed to be a comic book series" doesn't cut it either because there have been many comic inspired shows that do not suffer from the same problems that Ironfist has. Hopefully having the character in The Defenders with other stronger established characters to work with will help develop Danny Rand more.

The series producers have stated that it was never their intention to have Danny Rand become Ironfist in the first season so I have no problem with that we're it not for the fact that there are about five other Netflix series coming and by the time we meet Ironfist again, we may not care.

Let's hope when we reach that point it will be a more straight forward and entertaining series with more fleshed out characters that make the viewer really care about them and a story that is not as convoluted as the first season. Ironfist is streaming now on Netflix.

Solace Blu-ray Disc Review

A psychic doctor, John Clancy, works with an FBI special agent in search of serial killer Charles Ambrose. After having lived in isolation for two years, since the death of his daughter, Clancy is asked by his friend Joe, an FBI special agent to help him solve several murders committed by a serial killer. The problem is that Ambrose is also psychic, and far ahead of Clancy. Solace stars Sir Anthony Hopkins, Colin Farrell, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. As far as mystery thrillers go, Solace is a bit underwhelming, despite the acting talent screen direction involved.

Solace is presented on Blu-ray Disc with a clear 1080p full HD (2.40:1) aspect ratio and features an effective English DTS HA MA 5.1 Soundtrack that makes good use of the surround channels. English Subtitles for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired along with English and Spanish Language Subtitles are encoded onto the disc as options.

Extra value features include a Feature Length Audio Commentary with Director Afonso Poyart, a promotional featurette entitled Visions and Voices: The Making of Solace (8:40) with a mix of interviews and snippets from the film. There is also the Solace theatrical trailer (1:54). A limited time redeemable code for an Ultraviolet Digital Copy on an insert is included within by the Blue BD case.

Solace is available now on Blu-ray Disc at retailers on and offline courtesy of Lionsgate Home Entertainment.

T2 Trainspotting Theatrical Release Review

Danny Boyle's big screen adaptation of Trainspotting not only launched his directing career, but it helped a great deal of Scottish and British Actors become well known both as leading men in the case of Ewan McGregor as well as character roles in a variety of feature films and television for Robert Carlisle, Ewan Bremner, Johnny Lee Miller and Kevin McKidd. Loosely based on Irving Welsh's sequel novel, T2 Trainspotting is funny, poignant, sad, and beautiful all at the same time. What made the original Trainspotting so memorable was not some of the quasi psychedelic effects for lack of a better expression, but the memorable characters that viewers loved and feared whether it was Spud (Bremner) or Begbie (Carlyle), whose characterization in the first film was arguably the scariest sociopathic personality to appear on the big screen since Joe Pesci's role in Goodfellas. Shirley Henderson, James Cosmo, Eileen Nicholas, and Kelly Macdonald also reprise their roles from the first film.

Twenty years have passed, but the actors are spot on and the film in it's own way brings closure for each of the characters and arguably in as much as can be gathered from the events in the story has a bittersweet if not happy ending.

Boyle has matured greatly as a visual storyteller and at times employs techniques that reminded me a bit of Oliver Stone's more avant-garde features from the 1990s, but filtered with the director's own sensibilities. The accents are a bit thick for the untrained ear. Not as much as Under The Skin, but it may take a few minutes for American audiences to acclimate.

If there was anything I did not like it was the T2 portion of the title. I think the film should have just been called Trainspotting. All things considered it was fun to catch up with Renton (McGregor), Spud (Bremner), Sick Boy (Miller) and Begbie (Carlyle) again and watch things resolve themselves with both poignance, grace and hope.

T2 Trainspotting opened on Friday March 17, 2017 in the United States and is playing in American cinemas across the country. Check your local listings for theater and show times.

A Devastating Blow to Public Media Must Be Stopped.

The complete cut to funding to PBS is not what I call making America great again. It is making Americans ignorant again. PBS is the best channel on free over the air American television. It educates and provides multiple points of view for all Americans to ponder.

For nearly 55 years, PBS Thirteen has served the tri-state community with programming that educates, enlightens and inspires. PBS has provided children a safe harbor in a television environment that often contains content unfit for growing minds. And PBS provides materials that teachers use in the classroom each and every day. All for $1.35 per taxpayer.

PBS Thirteen and other PBS stations nationwide need the public's support to stand up for Public Broadcasting System networks like Thirteen when our elected officials have threatened to eliminate funding.

Steven Spielberg & John Williams: The Adventure Continues
March 15, 2017 - Sony Classical has teamed up with Yahoo! Movies to exclusively premiere "Hymn to the Fallen from 'Saving Private Ryan'" today! Listen to it now, here: "Hymn to the Fallen from 'Saving Private Ryan" is the 3rd single from John Williams & Steven Spielberg: The Ultimate Collection, which is set to release on March 17, 2017.
Celebrating one of the most definitive and beloved partnerships in the history of motion pictures, John Williams & Steven Spielberg: The Ultimate Collection delivers an essential sampling of Williams's musical scores for Spielberg's films - a critically acclaimed, award-winning, chart-topping collaboration now in its fifth decade.
This collection brings together Williams's two previous discs of his music for Spielberg films, which he recorded with the Boston Pops Orchestra for Sony Classical: The Spielberg/Williams Collaboration (1991) and Williams on Williams: The Classic Spielberg Scores (1995). Those discs include music from Sugarland Express (1974) through Jurassic Park and Schindler's List (1993).
Bringing the collection up to date is an all-new third disc, recorded in 2016 with Williams conducting the Recording Arts Orchestra of Los Angeles, and with Spielberg as executive producer. It features the first release of brand new recordings of music from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal SkullAmistadThe BFGLincolnThe Adventures of TintinMinority ReportCatch Me If You CanRaiders of the Lost ArkSaving Private RyanWar HorseThe TerminalMunich and Spielberg's 1999 documentary The Unfinished Journey.
The bonus DVD that accompanies this new three-CD collection presents Steven Spielberg & John Williams: The Adventure Continues, a new documentary by filmmaker and film historian Laurent Bouzereau, who has been documenting Spielberg's work for more than twenty years.
When Steven Spielberg made his first theatrical feature The Sugarland Express (1974), he sought John Williams to compose the score. With two exceptions, all of Spielberg's films have featured a Williams score. In its continuity and its infinite range of style and expression, their partnership is unique, even in light of other such legendary collaborations in film history, including Bernard Herrmann with Alfred Hitchcock, Nino Rota with Federico Fellini, and Ennio Morricone with Sergio Leone.
In his ongoing career, now in its sixth decade, Williams has won five Academy Awards (three for Spielberg films), seven BAFTA (British Film Academy) awards, four Golden Globes, and twenty-two Grammy Awards for his film scores. His fifty Academy Award nominations, as of 2017, are a record among composers, and he is second only to Walt Disney in holding the most Academy Award nominations by an individual artist.  Fifteen of those nominations are for scores from Spielberg films.

SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER- Director's Cut debuts on Blu-ray and Digital HD May 2nd to celebrate 40th Anniversary

Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Seminal Classic

New Director’s Cut Arrives on Blu-ray, DVD & Digital HD for the First Time Ever May 2, 2017

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – The film that both captured and defined a generation celebrates its 40th anniversary with a brand new Director’s Cut of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER arriving on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD for the first time ever on May 2, 2017 from Paramount Home Media Distribution.  With John Travolta’s electrifying Oscar®-nominated performance, the Bee Gees’ explosive soundtrack and, of course, the unforgettable dancing, SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER captured the angst and brio of the time and had an indelible impact on popular culture.  40 years later, the film about a Brooklyn kid with no prospects who lives for Saturday night continues to be revered and celebrated.

Director John Badham worked with Paramount in 2016 to restore the film in 4K using the original negative and update the surround sound mix to further enhance viewers’ enjoyment of the incredible soundtrack.  During this process he added scenes to the theatrical R-rated version that round out character and plot, making this new Director’s Cut the definitive representation of his original vision.

The SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER Blu-ray includes both the Director’s Cut and theatrical version of the film, commentary by director John Badham, a five-part look at the film entitled “Catching the Fever,” behind-the-scenes featurettes, and more.

SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER’s unforgettable soundtrack was composed and performed primarily by the Bee Gees and features mega-hits including “Stayin’ Alive,” “Night Fever,” “How Deep Is Your Love,” “More Than A Woman” and “If I Can’t Have You.”  The album has sold more than 40 million copies and was ranked number 132 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time in 2012.

SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER 40th Anniversary Blu-ray

The SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER Blu-ray is presented in 1080p high definition with English 5.1 Dolby TrueHD, French 5.1 Dolby Digital (theatrical version only), Spanish Mono Dolby Digital (theatrical version only), Portuguese 5.1 Dolby Digital (theatrical version only) and English, English SDH, French, Spanish and Portuguese subtitles.  The Blu-ray includes the following:

Shudder releases Ken Russell’s THE DEVILS - Available TODAY, for the first time in decades!

Shudder, the AMC-backed horror streaming platform, is proud to announce the release of Ken Russell’s film The Devils, available today, Wednesday, March 15!

Considered one of the most controversial films of all time, the Shudder release marks not only the first time the film has been publicly available for U.S. audiences in decades, but the first time the 109-minute unrated cut has been widely available in the U.S. since the film’s original 1971 release.

Shudder is thrilled to be bringing The Devils back into circulation as part of their continued commitment to horror in all its forms.

Directed by Ken Russell, The Devils, follows the rise and fall of Urbain Grandier (played by Oliver Reed), a 17th-century Roman Catholic priest executed for witchcraft following alleged possessions in Loudun, France. Alongside Reed, Vanessa Redgrave, plays a sexually repressed, hunchbacked nun that finds herself at the center of the accusations against Grandier. Russell’s controversial film was partly based on the 1952 book The Devils of Loudon by Aldous Huxley and also draws inspiration from the play 1960 The Devils-which was based on Huxley’s book.
