Ken Burns's "The Civil War" Re-mastered for 25th Anniversary - Available on DVD and Blu-ray October 13

KEN BURNS’S AWARD-WINNING MASTERPIECE “THE CIVIL WAR” RE-MASTERED

IN HIGH DEFINITION FOR 25THANNIVERSARY

Airs on PBS over Five Consecutive Nights Beginning September 7

Available on Blu-ray for the first time from PBS Distribution October 13th

Arlington, Va. – August 31, 2015 – PBS Distribution announced today it is releasing “THE CIVIL WAR 25THCOMMERMORATIVE EDITION” on DVD and Blu-ray.

Now fully restored to achieve the highest definition for optimal picture quality, the release coincides with the 25th anniversary of the original broadcast of “THE CIVIL WAR”, and the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.

THE CIVIL WAR 25TH ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATIVE EDITION” will be available on DVD and Blu-ray October 13, 2015. The run time of the DVD and Blu-ray is approximately 700 minutes on 6 discs. The DVD SRP is $99.99 and the Blu-ray SRP is $129.99. The program will also be available for digital download. In addition, the DVD and Blu-ray includes two hours of bonus features, including “The Making of The Civil War 25 years later”, uncut and re-mastered Shelby Foote interviews, and more.

“THE CIVIL WAR” attracted an audience of 38.9 million during its premiere in September 1990. It set a record for the highest rated PBS series broadcast, which stands today. The New York Times said that Ken Burns “…takes his place as the most accomplished documentary filmmaker of his generation.” The Washington Post said, ‘This is not just good television, nor even just great television. This is heroic television.’ The columnist George Will added, ‘If better use has ever been made of television, I have not seen it and do not expect to see better until Ken Burns turns his prodigious talents to his next project.’ The series has been honored with more than 40 major film and television awards, including two Emmy Awards, two Grammy Awards, Producer of the Year Award from the Producers Guild, People’s Choice Award, Peabody Award, duPont-Columbia Award, D.W. Griffith Award and the Lincoln Prize, among dozens of others.

While Burns had directed and produced other award-winning films on PBS prior to “THE CIVIL WAR”, including his first feature film, the Academy Award-nominated THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE (1981), “THE CIVIL WAR” quickly became the standard for historic documentaries.

Over the course of two months, 50,000 feet of the original 16mm film negative, which is preserved at the George Eastman House, was scanned frame by frame at 4K (4096 x 2160 pixels, the resolution used for Ultra High Definition).  The standard definition 1990 broadcast was taken from a duplicate of the original negative, resulting in a loss of quality. This is the first time the film will be seen with the exact same fidelity and framing as the negative that Burns and his co-cinematographers Allen Moore and Buddy Squires shot over 25 years ago.

THE CIVIL WAR” is narrated by David McCullough and includes the voices of

Sam Waterston (Abraham Lincoln), Julie Harris (Mary Chesnut), Jason Robards (Ulysses S. Grant), Morgan Freeman (Frederick Douglass), Paul Roebling (Joshua L. Chamberlain, etc.), Garrison Keillor (Walt Whitman, etc), George Black (Robert E. Lee), Arthur Miller (William T. Sherman), Chris Murney, (Pvt. Elisha Hunt Rhodes), Charley McDowell (Pvt. Sam Watkins), Horton Foote (Jefferson Davis), George Plimpton (George Templeton Strong), Philip Bosco (Horace Greeley, etc. ), Terry Courier (George McClellan), Jody Powell (Stonewall Jackson, etc.) and Studs Terkel (Benjamin F. Butler).

Others who provided voices include Derek Jacobi, Pamela Reed, Jeremy Irons, Ronnie Gilbert, Kurt Vonnegut, Colleen Dewhurst, Hoyt Axton and Shelby Foote.

The restoration of the program was done by Daniel J. White and supervised by Paul Barnes (lead editor of THE CIVIL WAR) of Ken Burns’s production company, Florentine Films, in association with the George Eastman House.  Funding for the restoration was provided by Bank of America, PBS and The Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

THE CIVIL WAR” was directed by Ken Burns; produced by Ken Burns and Ric Burns; written by Geoffrey C. Ward, Ric Burns and Ken Burns; edited by Paul Barnes, Bruce Shaw and Tricia Reidy; cinematography by Ken Burns, Allen Moore and Buddy Squires; coordinating producer Catherine Eisele; associate producer Lynn Novick; co-producers Stephen Ives, Julie Dunfey and Mike Hill.

TBS Orders Two More Seasons of American Dad!

TBS Orders Two More Seasons of American Dad!

Animated Hit Ranks #1 in Its TBS Timeslot, with Encores Airing on Adult Swim

TBS is doubling down on American Dad!, ordering two more seasons of the top-rated animated hit from Twentieth Century Fox Television, ensuring that the Stan Smith clan will have a home on the network through 2018. An important programming initiative for the Turner portfolio, American Dad! also has a second home on TBS's sister network, Adult Swim, which presents an encore of each new episode after its TBS premiere. Today's announcement adds 44 episodes to the series – 22 each for seasons 12 & 13. It marks the second time in less than year that TBS has renewed the series. In November, the network announced a 22-episode order for season 11, which is set to air on TBS and Adult Swim in early 2016.

Created by Seth MacFarlaneMike Barker and Matt WeitzmanAmerican Dad! joined the TBS slate in October 2014 with the start of the show's 10th season. Since then, it has ranked as basic cable’s #1 scripted series in the Monday 9 p.m. timeslot with adults 18-34 and #2 in the timeslot with adults 18-49. Overall, American Dad! reaches an average of nearly 4 million viewers per episode through its telecasts on TBS and Adult Swim, as well as through TBS's on-demand, digital and mobile platforms.

"American Dad! has thrived since coming to TBS and Adult Swim, demonstrating the Turner portfolio's ability to build enduring hits through a combination of smart programming, savvy promotion and extensive multiplatform distribution," said Deborah Bradleyexecutive vice president of networks optimization and content commercialization for Turner Broadcasting. "We look forward to keeping the crazy-but-lovable Smith family around for a long time."

TBS's double renewal of American Dad! is part of an overall strategy to update the network's brand and expand its lineup of original programming. Kevin Reilly, president of TBS and TNT and chief creative officer for Turner Entertainment, announced the brand overhaul during the TBS portion of Turner's Upfront presentation in May. Initial plans call for TBS to grow its original programming slate to more than 15 series over the next two years, with a focus on original live-action and animated comedies that are, in Reilly's words, "awesomely in-your-face." The rebrand is set to begin in the fourth quarter, in conjunction with the season 12 premiere of American Dad! and the launches of the brand new TBS comedies Angie Tribecaand The Detour.

ReedPOP and Brooklyn Brewery Unleash Specially Crafted Beer For NYCC

FOR NEW YORK SUPER WEEK AND THE
10TH EDITION OF NEW YORK COMIC CON

Exclusive Brooklyn Defender IPA Available September in the Tri-State with National Rollout Following Annual Entertainment Event

NORWALK, CT – August 27, 2015 – ReedPOP, the world’s largest producer of pop culture events, and Brooklyn Brewery today announced the launch of the  2015 Brooklyn Defender IPA – an exclusive brew created as the Official Beer of New York Super Week and this year’s New York Comic Con. The beer will be available in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut this September with a first-ever national distribution to follow in more than 20 states later in the year. This year’s introduction of the new IPA also marks the fourth installment of the Brooklyn Defender – the beer’s official superhero – created by renowned artist Khary Randolph.

The Brooklyn Defender IPA is a “superpowered beer” that will maintain constant vigilance to battle back the blandness lurking around the edges. This year’s rendition will be introduced at a release party at Brooklyn Brewery on September 9 and will be available for the first time bottled, as well as on tap. The Brooklyn Defender will then ‘hop’ into select bars and restaurants across the Tri-State area in preparation for New York Super Week, taking place October 5-11 and leading into the 10th Edition of New York Comic Con,  October 8-11 at the Javits Center. Following New York Super Week, the Brooklyn Defender IPA will make its debut across the country in 2016.

“This year’s Brooklyn Defender is a bright, juicy IPA with a reddish twist from a dash of roasted malt and matched the flavor packed by Randolph’s exquisite design,” Garrett Oliver, Brewmaster of Brooklyn Brewery explains. “We have been working with New York Comic Con for four years now and are really excited for the rest of the country to finally be able to experience the new Brooklyn Defender and its unique taste and look!”

In celebration of the East Coast’s largest and most heroic pop culture festival, renowned comic book artist Khary Randolph (Spider-Man, X-Men, Hellboy, Boondocks) crafted the bold spirit of the 2015 Brooklyn Defender to embody the modern superhero and athlete. The Defender looks like the everyday man, but is much more as he defends civilians against tasteless beer.

“The new Brooklyn Defender is the modern Brooklyn hero, saving many from dangerously bland nights,” explains Randolph. “He embodies Brooklyn and the Ft. Greene/Clinton Hills neighborhoods – reflecting the sports and hip hop cultures that are prevalent there. The Brooklyn Defender uses his athleticism and artistic prowess to defend beer and all those who stand behind it!”

“With New York celebrating the 10th Edition of New York Comic Con, the Brooklyn Defender beer and superhero is the ideal way to kick off New York Super Week,” said Lance Fensterman, Global Senior Vice President of ReedPOP. “Brooklyn Brewery’s creation and Khary’s depiction of the modern day Brooklyn superhero brings beer and comics together perfectly and embodies what New York Super Week and New York Comic Con are meant to be.”

The Brooklyn Defender will protect New York from boring beverages at their release party at the Brooklyn Brewery on Wednesday, September 9 from 7:30 PM – 10:30 PM. For more information and to RSVP visit NewYorkComicCon.com/Defender
