1776 Available June 2 for the First Time on Blu-ray™

“A wonderfully happy meeting of our distinct American history with that peculiarly
American dramatic forum: the musical comedy.”  ~ WALL STREET JOURNAL

The Director’s Cut Fully Restored in 4K

1776

Available June 2 for the First Time on Blu-ray

Featuring an All-New Commentary with
Director Peter H. Hunt, William Daniels & Ken Howard,
Along with Deleted Scenes, Screen Tests & an Extended Cut of the Film

CULVER CITY, Calif. (Mar. 26, 2015) –Based on the international stage triumph that won the Tony Award® and The New York Drama Critics Circle Award as “Best Musical of the Year,” the musical classic 1776 makes its Blu-ray debut June 2 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.  The Director’s Cut was meticulously restored by Sony Pictures Entertainment in 4K at Sony Pictures’ Colorworks from the original camera negative. Prepared under the guidance of Director Peter H. Hunt and Sony Pictures Entertainment Executive Vice President of Asset Management, Film Restoration and Digital Mastering Grover Crisp, the new Director’s Cut restores the film to its original visual brilliance and features newly discovered material. The Blu-ray includes an all-new commentary with Director Peter H. Hunt, William Daniels and Ken Howard, as well as deleted scenes and original screen tests with William Daniels and Howard Da Silva.  In addition to the Director’s Cut, the Blu-ray also presents an Extended Cut of the film via seamless branching, along with a newly restored and remixed 5.1 soundtrack.

“We worked tirelessly to return this film to as pristine a condition as possible and are excited to bring the newly restored version of 1776 to audiences worldwide,” Crisp said of the restoration, which will have its world premiere screening March 28 at the TCM Classic Film Festival.

This musical retelling of the American Revolution’s political struggle in the Continental Congress to declare independence was nominated for both an Academy Award® (Best Cinematography, Harry Stradling Jr., 1972) and a Golden Globe (Best Motion Picture-Musical/Comedy, 1972). Brought to the screen by legendary producer Jack L. Warner, 1776 was shot with most of the original Broadway cast, and features William Daniels (The Graduate) as John Adams, Howard Da Silva (The Blue Dahlia) as Benjamin Franklin, Ken Howard (“The White Shadow”) as Thomas Jefferson and Blythe Danner
(Meet the Parents) as Martha Jefferson.

“The movie is not a ‘whodunit’—we all know who signed the Declaration of Independence—it’s a ‘howdunit,’” Hunt said.  “It creates dramatic tension from a story where everyone knows the ending.”

The restored Director’s Cut is based, in part, on an earlier restoration carried out for a 2002 DVD release. That version, also prepared with Hunt’s oversight, added a number of scenes and lost elements that were missing from the original theatrical release. Among them was a musical number that had been dropped from the film by Warner at the request of President Richard Nixon (who felt the scene cast conservatives in an unfavorable light). Further detective work for the new version uncovered additional “lost” material, including dialogue that had been changed over ratings concerns.

“There were a few lines that Jack Warner wanted changed… but the changes weren’t funny,” Hunt said. “The original lines from Broadway were funny, and now, for the first time, they are in the movie.”

State-of-the-art 4K digital technology made it possible to address problems and restore color fidelity to a level not possible at the time of the earlier restoration, which was done through photochemical processes. Variations in color, due to different levels of degradation in negative elements, have been eliminated as much as possible, resulting in a seamless look.

“When a scene comes up that had been cut out or compromised in some way, it looks like it is supposed to be there because we could maintain consistency with the image and keep its natural filmic quality,” Crisp explained.

Colorworks Colorist Sheri Eisenberg said that much time was spent studying existing film prints and other reference material in order to ensure the restoration accurately represented the movie in its original form.

“We did a lot of eyeballing,” Eisenberg said. “We kept asking ourselves, ‘Does it feel right?’ ‘What can we do to make it better?’ We wanted to keep the theatrical feeling of the original.”

Hunt said that, in some ways, the results go beyond the original.

“I’m ecstatic,” he said. “1776 is back to where it should be. The work done by Grover and his team is miraculous. It looks better than when it premiered. It’s gorgeous!”

Synopsis:

1776 is a musical celebration of the founding of the United States of America based on the award-winning Broadway production. The story centers around the familiar historical characters as they organize a movement for independence from Mother England: the tough unyielding John Adams (William Daniels); the charming and pragmatic Benjamin Franklin (Howard Da Silva); the brilliant young Thomas Jefferson (Ken Howard), who is chosen to write the Declaration of Independence even as he longs for the company of his new bride Martha (Blythe Danner); and the rest of the Continental Congress. All events lead up to that most significant date July 4, 1776 when the Declaration was signed. Now fully restored for its high definition debut on Blu-ray, 1776 looks and sounds better than ever.

Based on the musical produced on the stage by Stuart Ostrow, 1776 was directed by Peter H. Hunt from a screenplay by Peter Stone. Music and Lyrics by Sherman Edwards. 1776 was produced by Jack L. Warner.

Off The Cuff Review - The Lord Of The Rings: Morgul Lord: Premium Format...

In Celebration Of The Blu-ray Disc Release Of Warner Brothers Home Entertainment's The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies, Here Is An Off The Cuff Review Of Sideshow Collectibles' The Lord Of The Rings: Morgul Lord: Premium Format Figure.

The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies: Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD Review

On March 24, 2015, the final installment in Peter Jackson's cinematic adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, which in the case is also the conclusion of a trilogy of Hobbit films that when combined with Jackson's classic adaptation of The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, serves as a kind of fictional account of the precursor events leading up to and including The War of the Ring as well as what happened after in the early days of the Fourth Age of Middle Earth. Picking up right where the cliffhanger The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug left off, the third installment in The Hobbit Trilogy was originally to be given the subtitle, There And Back Again, but after carefully constructing a second film out of bits and pieces of what would have been originally a two film adaptation of The Hobbit and then adding into it new footage to create in the editing room during production a middle film, the focus for the third film shifted and so the title was changed into The Battle Of The Five Armies for the final film since the idea was this was ostensibly the defining chapter that sets things into motion for The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy and as a war film the film works and of the three it is the most entertaining complete with a 45 minute epic battle filled with Dwarves, Elves, Men, Orcs, Goblins, Trolls, Ogres, Giant Bats and Were-Worms as Sauron scrapes the bottom of the barrel to muster enough force in an attempt to cease control of The Lonely Mountain with the Eagles swooping in once again to help save the day. The film manages to fit itself naturally into The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy so that the viewer can eventually watch all six films from the comfort of wherever they may be in this digital age and view it all as one complete tale.

Warner Brothers Home Entertainment's The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD and UVHD Digital Copy set contains five discs as well as an insert for a limited time only free retrieval of a high definition Ultraviolet Digital Copy of the theatrical cut of the film. The first two discs contain the theatrical cut of the film in 3D and the third disc is the 2D HD copy while the fourth disc contains the extra value features in high definition and the fifth disc is a standard definition DVD copy of the film too. The high definition presentation in both 3D or 2D yields a vibrant and clear 1080p full HD (2.4:1) widescreen presentation. The 3D at times reveals certain scenes in digital effects to greater attention while the clarity of the 2D version does the same with different scenes because of the changes emphasis. The 2D DVD copy looks clear, but after watching the film in HD in both 3D and 2D, the standard definition copy looks a little washed out in comparison. Both the BD-3D and normal 2D Blu-ray versions features an English DTS-HD 7.1 MA as well as Spanish, Portuguese and French Language Dolby Digital 5.1 Soundtracks while the BD-3D copy also features Hungarian and Polish Language options. Both the 3D and 2D HD versions include English Subtitles for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired as well as Spanish, Portuguese, French, Language Subtitles while the 3D version also includes Bulgarian, Hungarian, Polish and Romanian Subtitle options too.

The DVD features English, French and Spanish Language Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Soundtracks and English Subtitles for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired as well as Spanish and French Language Subtitles encoded as options. All three versions include the somewhat retrospective almost tourist spot quasi hybrid, New Zealand: Home Of Middle Earth (6:07). The fourth BD disc includes the rest of the extra value features, which includes the fantastic two-part documentary Completing Middle Earth (19:59) and a behind the scenes look at the recording of as well as the music video for "The Last Goodbye" by Dominick Monaghan and a behind-the-scenes account of the extras recruited for the Battle of the Five Armies (11:39). The second theatrical trailer (2:33) and a trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug: Extended Edition Blu-ray set (1:34) wrap up the bonus materials included within this five-disc set. The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies: Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD will debut at retailers on and offline on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 courtesy of Warner Brothers Home Entertainment,

Mythica captures the thrill of the role-playing game experience: forming an underdog team of disparate heroes to win fortune and glory. It was made by true fans, for true fans,” says Arrowstorm Executive Kynan Griffin. “Fan support from the Kickstarter campaign is a crucial driving force in the creation and success of the Mythica franchise.”

Inspired by her Wizard mentor Gojun (Kevin Sorbo), Marek (Stone) escapes indentured servitude and overcomes physical limitations to hone her own mysterious powers. When the beautiful Priestess Teela (Posener) falls victim to a massive Ogre, Marek rallies a misfit team of adventurers, including Thane the Warrior (Johnson) and Dagen the Thief (Stormoen), to join her in a fight to save her sister and their Legacy.

“As this skillfully created, sweeping fantasy epic touches on the myths and legends that appear in some of the most popular role playing games, comics, video games, and more, Mythica is the perfect choice as CONtv’s first original feature film,” said Erick Opeka, EVP and GM for CONtv. “Everyone who served in the creation of the film are true fans of the genre, and we know that the Mythica trilogy will absolutely resonate with discriminating CONtv users.”

“As an epic fantasy movie series, Mythica follows the tradition of Lord of the RingsNarnia and Harry Potter. The studios have run out of fantasy blockbusters, and Mythica was made to keep fantasy thriving across the globe,” says Arrowstorm Executive Jason Faller.

“So many fantasy stories, especially movies, are dominated by male protagonists. Mythica turns this convention on its head, featuring a strong and complex female hero in the lead. Exploring her story and relationships in a male-dominated fantasy universe makes Mythica compelling and unique,” says Director Anne K. Black.

Mythica joins the growing slate of CONtv originals including Bruce Campbell’s (The Evil Dead) trivia game show “Last Fan Standing,” the YouTubers vs. zombies spoof reality competition “Fight Of The Living Dead” and the adrenaline-fueled action series that follows original Green Power Ranger Jason David Frank, “My Morphing Life.” With an ongoing commitment to debut fan-driven exclusive content, CONtv will be rolling out new and exclusive programming created by and for the fanspace on a monthly basis.

About FIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD

From Alpine Labs, BlackBoxTV, and Revolver Picture Company, the unprecedented mash-up of reality and scripted genres, “FIGHT OF THELIVING DEAD” follows follows a collection of online celebrities including Joey Graceffa, Jesse and Jeana (PrankvsPrank), Justine Ezarik (iJustine), and more as they work to survive the first 24-hours of a simulated zombie apocalypse. Contestants will face a series of grisly challenges in an attempt to eliminate the competition through the undead’s frightening realistic onslaught.

Shot over the course of two days at Sybil Brand Women’s Prison in Los Angeles, “FIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD” competitors were first blindfolded, driven in circles, led onto the set, and zipped into body bags, all to help simulate the all-too-real tension of awaking in a post-apocalyptic landscape riddled by monsters out for blood. Instructed by a faceless character named Dr. Altagracia (portrayed by Tony E. Valenzuela, Executive Producer and founder of YouTube’s #1 ranked genre channel BlackBoxTV), the “survivors” are tasked finding the antidote that can save mankind.

Enlisting over 200 extras, FX Supervisor Tommy Pietch (“Face Off”) and his team create a horrifying mob of rotting, wounded, bloody zombies tasked with keeping the competitors from accomplishing their mission.  “FIGHT OFTHE LIVING DEAD” also turns up the thrills by including a collection of zombie-clad Parkour experts, overseen by renowned stunt coordinator Chris Carnel (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), who use the prison’s walls as their terrifying playground, threatening to unleash destruction from any angle.

Requiring over 60 cameras to track each competitor as they fight to survive the game, each participant was also clad with their own GoPro cameras so that the viewers may get even closer to all the explosive action.
